Unca Jeffy's Sketchbook 12-15-14

Doctor Who doodles

left to right:  William Hartnell (First Doctor), Matt Smith (Eleventh Doctor and my fave!), Patrick Troughton (Second Doctor - unfinished) and Christopher Eccleston (Ninth Doctor and my least favorite)

An amorous hot dog I did for work.

The hot dog's "object of desire" a bun.

The bun looks overtly vaginal.  It was better defined that she was a hot dog bun after the designers at work added color.  Fitting though.  The relationship between hot dog and bun are innately sexual.

The Fastest (and BEST) Man Alive - Barry Allen - The Flash!

Tonight's the night, kiddies!  The big live action crossover between two long time comic book favorites begins tonight on the CW Television Network, The Green Arrow and The Flash!

Yesterday I shared the 1st appearance of GA here from 1941 (More Fun Comics #73 from coincidentally 73 years ago) and today I'll share what some consider the comic book that launched the Silver Age of Comics, Showcase #4 and the first appearance of Barry Allen as The Flash from 1956.

Written by Robert Kanigher and with pencils by Carmine Infantino and inks by Joe Kubert (whew!  THERE'S a winning hand to draw to, boys!) here y'all go.

Oh yeah.  It's the first appearance of  Turtle Man, too.  Yeah, I said Turtle Man.

These 1 page featurettes were some of the real fun in Silver Age DC comics.   They always somehow tied in with the main feature of the comics and here's 2 awesome pages to fill young minds with facts about speed, now that they're imaginations had been sparked by The Fastest Man Alive.

Here's some cool retrospective insight.  The second story of the issue already has The Scarlet Speedster delving into time travel.  Early indications of the wide-spanning fun to come in reading Flash Comics!

Pure-D Silver age fun!

Arrow????? OH! You Mean GREEN Arrow!

DC Comics and The CW Television Network is doing a BIG crossover with 2 of their shows this week.  It's making big big overnight stars with a couple of characters who've been around for a long, long time.

The Arrow has been on for a couple of years now.  It has a little too much "Dawsons Melrose 90210" in it for my taste, but they're really done a nice job in bringing some comic book characters to life.  Green Arrow, Deathstroke, Merlin and a cast of other with others still on the way,

I have much more faith in the abilities of DC in creating a shared universe for their characters here in TV than I have in what they're hinting at with their announce big screen line up.

It's actually just pure D dumb fun!  And there's nothing wrong with that.

For all of us kiddies too young to have been around from the beginnings of the character of The Green Arrow, here's a glance back at the 73rd issue of More Fun Comics in 1941 and GA's very first appearance.  Mort Weisinger and artist George Papp wanted to create a swashbuckling Robin Hood for modern times.

He's still around 73 years later, so they must've done a good job.

More on this TV event tomorrow here, just in time for part one tomorrow night,

Talk to you soon.
